“Pure”? “Impure”? What meaning do these words have when it comes to the food we eat? What kind of impact do the Kashrut laws have on our bodies or on our souls? In this lesson, learners will study four perspectives on the physical and spiritual benefits of eating Kosher. All four of these perspectives embody the notion of “you are what you eat.”, and can be explored further through the included scientific and historical video. To bring the lesson home, students can debate the pros and cons of each of the perspectives and create visuals to illustrate their positions.
The learner will:
Understand how the laws of kashrut promote a more mindful way to live and eat
know that some of the different approaches to the reasons for the laws of Kashrut
be able to summarize and create a diagram outlining the lessons’s four different perspectives on Kashrut
