Ancient Israelites in Canaan

Abstract

After wandering in the desert for 40 years, the return to Canaan held great promise for the exiled Israelites. How would having their own land impact their mission from God to build a holy society and be a “light unto the nations”?  This lesson will explore the challenges for the leadership that paved the way to gaining sovereignty in the Holy land. Thought provoking  discussion triggers and creative learning activities such as an opportunity to compare and analyze the different leadership styles used by Moshe, Yehoshua, Devorah, Shimshon and more are featured in this resource.

The learners will:

  1. understand the dilemmas faced by the Israelites after they captured the land of Canaan.

  2. know some of the famous characters and events from the times of Joshua and the Judges.

  3. be able to analyze and prioritize the attributes that they seek in a leader today
